Why You Should Get A Tattoo
This article is going to shock some folks if only because of the title. But let me just say that the title is there to grab your attention. If you are not someone who would every consider getting a tattoo, then I’m not going to try and convince you otherwise. If you are someone who has religious or moral objections from getting a tattoo, then again, I am not going to try and get you to consider putting a tattoo on your unblemished canvas of skin. However, if you have occasionally thought of getting a tattoo but never got around to it, then you are my ideal candidate. Read on and see why I recommend that you finally step up to the plate and get a tattoo.
Tattoos are not new. They’ve been around for centuries. Old Maori warriors received tattoos as a sign of their manhood and status as warriors. They have been used by indigenous cultures in place of what we have now as military rankings. So tattoos aren’t just something new and cool and risque. They have a long and storied history as emblems of culture, prestige in that culture and as symbols of beauty. In fact, foot tattoo designs can be seen going back many decades and beyond. The same can be said for skull tattoo designs. As they say, there really isn’t anything new under the sun that you and I can think of.
Because tattoos have a long history does not necessarily mean you should get one. However, it does mean that just because our culture might frown on them doesn’t mean that tattoos are evil, ugly or inappropriate, you just have to work them into your lifestyle appropriately. That means if you’re going to get one to keep it in a place that is discreet especially if you aren’t a rockstar but are a corporate peon. Tattoos are best had when they are little talisman or reminders of who you are or a significant event in your life. As we grow older, you can look at your tattoo and be reminded fondly of that special occasion or that special someone. Just don’t get their name unless it was someone close to you like a brother, mother, grand parent or child. If you get a tattoo for these reasons you’ll be often comforted by the meaning that it represents.
